[Music plays. The à½à½AV logo appears. A panning shot of the front of the M&S Archive building, followed by a close up of vintage photos of M&S buildings and a timeline of key developments during the business].

A person says: Marks and Spencer began here at Leeds in 1884. Now, today we're a global retailer, we serve customers around the world.

The person speaking appears on the screen – Katherine Carter, Head of M&S Archive.

Katherine continues: Now, today we're a global retailer, we serve customers around the world. We have supply relationships around the world, and we're selling M&S to the world.

[A series of footage showing exhibits in the Archive, including information about the company’s history, vintage clothing and staff uniforms. Visitors are engaging with the exhibits]. Katherine says: M&S archive is based here on campus as a physical representation of a much broader partnership between the business and the à½à½AV. It covers research, culture and employability. It's a brilliant partnership for us.

It means we're able to work with leading academics and brilliant students. [Footage of students and staff discussing work around a table].

[A new person appears on screen – Dr Yitin Duang, a Lecturer in the School of Design]. Yitin says: They are students from School of Design and specifically from Fashion Marketing program.

[Footage of students engaging with exhibits in the archive including clothing and sheet music]. Yitin continues: So it's just a really good chance for them to really engage in the real world activity and the task, especially to collaborate with the industry and to see what's really going on on the market. They know Marks and Spencer is a very famous and a well-known brand. They never know Marks and Spencer was originally from Leeds. We invite our students to come to the Marks and Spencer archive to work together to co-design the archive experience.

Katherine reappears and says: This project is enabling us to make our on campus offer really engaging and accessible for students from all around the world. So it's perfect for us. [Yitin is delivering a study session with students where they discuss layouts in the Archive].

[A student appears on screen – Yagna, Year 2, BA Fashion Marketing]. Yagna says: I was really interested in looking at the brand history whilst also understanding brand evolution, but also I just had an interest because I quite like the brand. [Students engaging with the Archive exhibits].

[A student appears on screen – Xiyuan, Year 2, BA Fashion Marketing]. Xiyuan says: I do learn more about the history part of the brand. From womenswear, menswear to furnitures and toys, they got all of the stuff here which let me learn more about the industry. [Footage of Archive exhibits including clothing, toys].

[A PhD researcher appears on screen – Jiang, PhD, Textile Design]. Jiang says: Mark and Spencer give good high visual product package, you can see products really on high level compared to other low priced stores. [Footage of Archive exhibits such as fashion, household items and advertisements spanning late Victorian to 1990s, followed by a high-speed tour around a M&S store in the food department].

The interior design or fashion design and textile design and design of stores is really helpful, especially for design students who want to improve in their design expertise related to industry.

[A student appears on screen – Hilary, Year 2, BA Fashion Marketing]. Hilary says: I think it's quite unique to see something like this in a university. [Footage of students in a study session discussing layouts in the Archive and looking at exhibits].

It's a really good chance for me to explore more about M&S, to know more about how the brand became very successful, that history. But I think, particularly now it’s about the hands on experience. You can listen to other opinion and ideas. You can collaborate together, refine and enhance your outcome. So I think it's really good.

Dr Yitin Duang appears on screen and says: They feel very proud of like this collaboration and the connection with Marks and Spencer.
